At many a glass in our bar, there's always someone telling you where they spent their last holiday. And so you travel, only to find out that Terlan is already everywhere in the world – from Timbuktu to the Maldives, the wines of the Winery can be found all over. And you can't help but marvel at how small a village actually is, and how far it reaches into the world.
When the Terlan Winery solemnly invites you to the inauguration of its new cellar, with food and wine, the Concierge naturally accepts. His big world – he can have it in a small way too – no plane needed, he takes the bus. Right on time for the aperitivo, and punctual is exactly the right word. Klaus Gasser, Director of Sales & Marketing at the Winery, mentioned only that they had been worried the cellar wouldn't be finished in time for the new harvest – and that it had cost them more than a few grey hairs. But now it's finally done, and the new build can be celebrated!
For the occasion, the Winery pulled out all the stops and spared neither cost nor effort. Champagne, rarities, four courses with a main course conceived by Norbert Niederkofler, the three-Michelin-star chef. Great wines need great food – and here the Winery's wines are in the best possible company. The standout of the evening was the Pinot Bianco Vorberg 2021 from magnum: a more mature Pinot Bianco and the little brother to all the other heavy-hitters in the cellar. Smaller, perhaps – but it has absolutely nothing to hide from its siblings.
But the question remains: does a new cellar really need to exist? The wines are good, aren't they? Never change a running system – don't fix what isn't broken, after all the wines are already outstanding. Yet while the Winery has grown – beyond its own borders, in the most literal sense of the word – and its wines are now found across the globe, the cellar itself had remained the same for years. Better, more efficient, faster: the work in the cellar is no longer held back by a lack of space. Time will tell how the new cellar will influence the wines. But if Rudi Kofler's team keeps up their sharp, precise work, we can look forward to many more exciting wines to come.
To that, the Concierge gladly raises a glass – to the Terlan Winery! Cheers! But the Concierge must be off – bar closed and boss drunk! On the bus, of course – never drink and drive!
Stay tuned!
